SSO Music Director Hans Graf ramps up the stakes as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra chronicles Richard Strauss’s groundbreaking orchestral spectacle, Ein Heldenleben under his baton. Paganini is a name associated with impossible feats on the violin, and what better way to show they are possible than in the hands of the very best such as Singapore’s brightest violin star, Chloe Chua? Esteemed Swiss maestro Mario Venzago leads this myriad display of instrumental and choral skill, the latter with the Singapore Symphony Chorus and Youth Choir as the magical sirènes in Debussy’s Nocturnes and explorers in Vaughan Williams’s paean vocalising Walt Whitman’s transcendent poetry.

The exquisite Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto is one of the most popular works of its kind from the 20th century, inspired by the eponymous Chinese legend. Singapore Symphony Artist-In-Residence Chloe Chua will transport you to scenic China with its rapturous music, sweeping you up in the tale of the star-crossed lovers, Liang Shanbo (梁山伯) and Zhu Yingtai (祝英台). Conducted by SSO Associate Conductor Rodolfo Barráez, the concert begins with the soulful warmth of Sunshine Over Tashkurgan (also featuring Chloe Chua) and ends with the sunlit exaltation of Beethoven’s spirited Eighth Symphony.

Sunshine and joy return as our Artist-In-Residence Chloe Chua’s Mozart cycle continues with the immensely popular Violin Concerto No. 3, framed by the Romantic ardour of Schumann. In his Fourth Symphony, Schumann sought to write a continuous symphonic drama without any breaks – witness his heroic spirit, tender musings and ultimate triumph as shaped by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra with our Music Director Hans Graf.

Witness Chloe Chua’s new take on Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4, over five years since her prize-winning performance in 2017 at the Zhuhai Mozart Competition, when she was 10. This instalment of Chloe's Mozart recording cycle with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, where she is Artist-In-Residence, also features Bizet’s only Symphony, written when he was a 17-year-old student at the Paris Conservatoire, and Debussy’s dreamy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.

KIDS' PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

Kids' Philharmonic Orchestra's 10 Year Anniversary Concert is both a celebration and reflection. KPO has fostered and brought together some of the most talented young musicians in Singapore over the past decade.  The orchestra has made several international tours and exchanges in order to spread the message of how enthusiastic Singapore's youth are about classical music.

Nathanael Koh is the young composition student of one of Singapore's most prominent pioneer composers: Phoon Yew Tien. In addition to featuring new Singaporean music, the Kids' Philharmonic will be bringing on 3 of Singapore's youngest and most eminent classical performers: Chloe Chua, Toby Tan, and Liu Jiaqi in a performance of Beethoven's Triple Concerto for Violin, Cello, Piano and Orchestra.
